Alfred's suggestion about proxy objects might result in nothing being in the clipboard, but if you try copying/pasting some ordinary things like Lines, you should be able to tell whether the process is viable.
Most modern computer file systems use multiple levels of data validation and auditing, making processes like those described on this page unnecessary.

So I'm guessing that there's some reason that the Copyclip command is not succeeding in putting things there, or there's something wrong with the computer or the Windows environment. The key idea to keep in mind is the very nature of the DWG file format (the format in which AutoCAD drawings are saved). When there's nothing in the clipboard, the Pasteclip command does not offer an insertion-point prompt, as you describe. Question for anyone using HydraCAD on top of their AutoCAD: Why is it that when I use the Cop圜lip tool to paste items in other drawings, it takes Press J to jump to the feed.

But when I tried to paste it into a new drawing, the command line just shows "_pasteclip" and nothing happens, instead of "_pasteclip Specify insertion point."
when I COPYCLIP, the command line responded and found all the items.
