In particular, Brayflox’s Longstop is a massive wake up call, in that you learn just how difficult healing can be without Esuna/Leeches/Exalted Detriment. Sure, they DO get Virus and Eye for an Eye, just like Summoner, and with Deployment tactics, they can SPREAD Eye for an Eye, and a Galvanize effect to the rest of the party, but you’re always going to find that Scholars, wven with the right gear, may struggle at healing where an Astrologian or a White Mage might not. While they do have the very useful Lustrate, Adloquium, Succor (with the Galvanize buff, an HP shield), Indomitability, Emergency Tactics and the fairies to aid their healing, the Scholar’s biggest flaw is quite suprisingly, the healing itself. Sure, they lack the bursts Summoner has, especially on the AoE department, but they CAN lay more DoTs on, thanks to a cross-classed Aero. They come from a DPS class with competent off healing prowess, and as such have very good DPS potential when in Cleric Stance.

Pros: Regen, burst heals (especially aoe wise), two OH SHIT BUTTONS (Benediction and Tetragrammaton), good offensive potential, Assize is Energy Drain on crack!Ĭons: Offense demands sacrificing your heals, mp consumption problems on extended runs, lack of raid utility. And even then, the other issue is that it lacks the pure utility provided by Astrologian and Scholar, but this is at the price of being very user friendly. White Mage’s only issues come from its mana consumption on speed runs. That being said, White Mage does have an impressive array of offensive tools, from Stone I/II/III, and the Aeros, and the ever-awesome Holy. Not many bells and whistles are here, other than you having the ever useful Regen effects from Regen, Asylum and Medica II and the fact you’ve got some of the best healing in the game, until Astrologian got buffed. Seriously, I heavily doubt there’s a healer that’s as user friendly as this one. I’m not a pro-Savage player with a fully upgraded Anima weapon, so bear with me.
